Begining Adventures with the Group

These past two days have been quite the adventure! First I finally met the advisers, who are amazingly nice and all the girls I will be living with! There are 6 of us living in a middle class area of Amman. I know what you are thinking...6 new girls in a somewhat okay apartment equals disaster...but that's not the case! I even thought it was crazy until I got here. The apartment is huge! 3 bedrooms, 2 and a half bathrooms, 2 living rooms, dining room and a large kitchen. To make things even better, all 6 of us are getting along greatly! But not everything can be perfect, we had some problems the first night. The most drastic problem was that the power went out, but no one told us we shouldn't have all of the ACs on at the same time so we quickly learned our lesson. Also people in our neighborhood have been very nice! We now know the worker at the convenient store down the street and a man living in our building welcomed us and said if we needed anything to knock on his door. I love Arab hospitality :)
Here are a few pictures of our humble abode...

Now lets get to the exciting part...the 5 hour walking tour of Rainbow Street and Downtown with the whole group! Even though I got super sweaty and every single person we walked by stared at us, it was really exciting and I saw a lot of amazing places! I also decided to wear a hijab today because one, I thought we were going to King Abdullah Mosque today, but that's actually tomorrow and two I wanted to blend in a little.
Here are some pictures of Rainbow Street and Downtown...
The best shawarma place in Amman, Reem. Its less than 1 JD for one shawarma!

The oldest Islamic boys school. King Hussein went here as a child

There are crowns everywhere in Amman and being a princess myself it makes me feel at home ;)

There I am once again in my hijab. Mashallah to the women who wear these everyday in the heat, its rough.

Ma'louf!! (The Lebanese people will know this name)

My new obsession, lemon juice with mint :D

Turkish coffee downtown

After 5 hours of walking my roommates and I decided to get food close to our apartments.  After being dropped off at the wrong place and walking across Medina street we finally made it.  One thing about crossing streets: you must be assertive! I've learned to just wait for a split second break in traffic, stick my hand out and run...it actually works quite well.  Anyways we got to the restaurant and of course we all ordered something American/familiar. I stuck with my favorite food as a child, fettuccine alfredo.
It was actually pretty good!

Overall Amman has been treating me very well, hamdillah. I haven't even been here a week and I already know I'm going to miss Amman. I will for sure look into getting an internship here next summer! I would type more, but its currently 3:22 am, so I'll be posting later!
